Robert B. was heading home after partaking in a memorial motorcycle ride for fallen veterans on September 4th, 2021. As he rode along, he started to notice some oil splattered on the road that was creating dangerous driving conditions for him and his bike. Initially, he was able to avoid the oil spots and thought the hazard was over. As he proceeded around a curve towards his house, the oil re-appeared and caused his back wheel to slide out from under him, resulting in a motorcycle wreck.
When the police arrived on the scene, one of the officers followed the oil trail for about 7 miles in attempt to determine where it came from. The oil trail turned out to have been the product of two busted hoses on a large commercial vehicle, owned by a local business.
Although the drivers of the truck were unaware of the dangerous conditions they were causing, their negligence resulted in serious injuries for Robert. After the accident, he was rushed to the Emergency Room for treatment and was diagnosed with a broken left hand, severe road rash on both of his knees and his right elbow, and a shattered left elbow, which had to be repaired in a 3 hour surgery.
Robert was wearing a helmet, his riding boots, a vest, jeans, and leather gloves. He took all of the encouraged precautions to protect his body while riding, and still ended up severely injured.
